Many birthdays ago, my gal pal took me to New York City. I hadn’t planned to visit the MAD Magazine offices, but as we walked past 1700 Broadway, I insisted we pop in.
“Sure, I know you love MAD,” she said. “Go ahead.”
There was a security guard in the lobby, one of those weird post-9/11 safety precautions. I lied and told him my name was Al Jaffee.
“Hey,” the guard said. “I love those ‘Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions’! Will you do one for me?”
He asked, “Al Jaffee, are you going to the MAD offices?”
“Yes,” I said.
