Bookstack: June Titles I'm Reading or Planning to Read Soon
Plus - My Heartfelt Recommendations, Pictures
Carl Hiaasen, whose latest, Fever Beach, is a masterpiece of MAGA-disdaining pandemonium. Funny, too.
June 3
Robert Bryndza, Chasing Shadows. A crime thriller that grabs the reader from the git-go.
Julie Clark, The Ghostwriter. An intriguing premise in which the title character accepts a gig working for her long-estranged father. I’m ascared to reveal any more.
Jessa Crispin, What Is Wrong with Men. Ms. Crispin explains by revisiting Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas’s most celebrated movie roles. A nutty premise that works…so far.
Tiffany Jenkins, A Clean Mess. Tiffany, you had me at “sobriety memoir.”
June 10
C.M. Kushins, Cooler Than Cool: The Life and Work of Elmore Leonard. Can’t wait to tear into this one. Elmore was always one of my favorites.
Riley Sager, With a Vengeance. Haven’t cracked this one yet. Stay tuned.
June 17
Laura Lippman, Murder Takes a Vacation. The perennial (and deserving for sure) bestseller is also a fellow Substacker. Subscribe here!
CURRENT READING
Linwood Barclay, Whistle. Mr. Barclay’s latest ventures into creepy Bentley Little territory. Just when you thought it was safe to fire up the toy train set…
Carl Hiaasen, Fever Pitch. Political corruption, soulless super rich, white supremacists, and more. Fun! And as a longtime Northwest Florida resident, I’m particularly grateful for the Matt Gaetz-inspired character.
Stephen King, Never Flinch (Audible, Narrated by Jessie Mueller). The latest epic featuring beloved (by me and the author, at least) heroine Holly Gibney.
RECOMMENDS
Peter Wolf, Waiting on the Moon: Artists, Poets, Grifters, and Goddesses. The former J. Geils Band frontman drops names like a crazy man, and you probably would, too, if those names included John Lee Hooker, Marilyn Monroe, Bob Dylan, and Faye Dunaway. Not sure how full of shit Mr. Wolf is, but what a storyteller; I recommend the author-narrated audio version.
…and what are you reading these days?
